Cristiana Marinescu, Romanian artist, graphic designer and art therapist along with Fernando Gonzalez, Mexican painter and muralist have opened Cristi Fer Art Studio in Playa del Carmen, México. What started as an artist couple’s studio has become an opportunity for Riviera Maya visitors (painters, beginner and intermediate) to learn and enhance their skills.
“I have being drawing for as long as I can remember. When I was three or four years old, my aunt would give me art projects to keep me occupied,” says Cristiana. Over the years, in a restless search for the perfect creative expression, Cristiana studied architectural design, graphic design, art and psychology.
Fernando, who has been painting his entire life, grew up in his father’s studio where he learned the techniques of the masters. Later, he studied visual arts and technical drawing, adding new skills to his natural talent. As an adult, he searched for his own style and settled on Magic Realism. He also developed an interest in large scale painting, and produced several murals for public spaces in the United States.
After traveling, painting, teaching and showing their work for over 30 years in Mexico and the U.S., the couple decided to make Playa del Carmen their home. Cristiana and Fernando have taught college art classes, workshops and individual instruction. They have sold paintings to individuals and businesses in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan.
They currently offer a full art program for beginners and intermediate painters. Workshops are 3 to 10 days and instruction is in English, but Spanish is available. Several workshops being offered are; Drawing and painting, Abstract painting, Self exploratory art, and One on One painting resulting in a 24″x36″ painting with a focus on Mayan symbolism. A brand new workshop, paint Frida Kahlo Style, is a 5 day workshop experiencing the style of revolutionary Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo.
